General Motors Enables EV Sharing With The Sustainable City

General Motors Africa and Middle East has today announced that The Sustainable City, the region’s first fully operational sustainable community, has taken delivery of six new Chevrolet Bolt EVs for its alternative propulsion fleet. The six new Chevrolet Bolt EV vehicles will be part of The Sustainable City’s EV car-sharing fleet, which will be accessible to all residents, easing mobility within the community while minimizing environmental impact.
With its unprecedented driving range of up to 520 kilometers of zero emissions driving on a single charge, the Chevrolet Bolt EV is the perfect fit for The Sustainable City’s vision.
John Roth, President and Managing Director of General Motors Africa and Middle East said: “The Sustainable City, as an international model for green living, is strongly aligned with our vision for a future of zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion so this is a natural next step in our partnership, which we announced earlier this year.”
He continued, “The way people, good and things are moving is changing rapidly, and the concept of vehicle ownership has shifted in recent years. With its range and performance, the Chevrolet Bolt EV provides a mobility solution in line with The Sustainability City’s aim to pioneer how cities of the future can accommodate rapid urbanisation in a sustainable fashion. I am confident the Chevrolet Bolt EV will exceed expectations, whilst supporting the UAE government’s agenda to move towards cleaner, interconnected mobility in the years ahead.”
General Motors’ efforts around alternate propulsion vehicles and mobility sharing solutions are aligned with the UAE government’s vision for sustainable and smart mobility solutions, making the company one of the key drivers in the region’s motoring landscape.
Karim El Jisr – Executive Director SEE Institute – the research and development arm of Diamond Developers -, added: “As the first low carbon community in the Middle East, The Sustainable City has set a strong benchmark in promoting sustainable living. We are dedicated to promoting environment-friendly mobility solutions, from public transportation all the way to car sharing. The Chevrolet Bolt EV is an apt vehicle combining both performance and comfort, which is why it was our first choice when launching our electric car sharing program exclusive to the residents of The Sustainable City. The program aims to increase EV adoption by residents, replace personally owned vehicles, and reduce the overall carbon footprint of The Sustainable City. We fully embrace the vision of Dubai’s leadership to reach the lowest carbon footprint in the world by 2050 and look forward to continue supporting this through our initiatives.”
This strategic partnership solidifies both parties’ position as leaders in Dubai’s move to a more sustainable future.
Delivering the fleet of Chevrolet Bolt EVs to The Sustainable City, Mark Jenkins, CEO of Al Ghandi Auto, the brand’s official dealer in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, commented: “As one of the Emirate’s leading dealerships we are very excited to have delivered six Bolt EVs to The Sustainable City community, highlighting our commitment to support the UAE government’s initiatives in creating a greener future mobility landscape. Going green is no easy feat however with products like the Chevrolet Bolt EV, this goal becomes more achievable day by day. We look forward to continue strengthening this partnership in the future.”
