On 25th September, 2021,under the patronage and in the presence of His Excellency Engr. Sheikh Salim Bin Sultan Bin Saqr Al Qasimi –member of the executive council of Ras Al Khaimah and Chairman of RAK Civil Aviation Authority and honorary member of EEG. The Group inaugurated its new planting season by planting500 indigenous trees in collaboration with Alshaya group at Al Minae- (Skheibar Area) South of Ras Al Khaimah with the participation of more than 200 people representing the Al Shaya Group, the EEG team and volunteers from the Emirates Lions Club.

The Chairperson of EEG Mrs.Habiba Al Marashiexpressed her gratitude and appreciation to H. E. Engr. Sheikh Salem Bin Sultan Bin Saqr Al-Qasimi for his support towards EEG’s urban afforestation programme and his active support to EEG’s programmes and campaigns.

She said: “EEG strives to bring all sectors of the society to work together towards a development that is just and sustainable. We want to assure first and foremost the conservation of natural habitats and ecosystems to help promote a thriving flora and fauna population and the mitigation of carbon emissions; thus, contributing collectively to the achievement of the relevant United Nations Sustainable Development Goals”.

She added that with proper nurture, these trees will reach maturity in 3-5 years and will add to the creation of carbon sinks, noting that EEG launched the ‘Adopt a Tree’ campaign under the “For Our Emirates we Plant” programme to indulge corporations to take part in sustaining the environment and to deliver a powerful message that sustainable development can be only attained when entities work in harmony with nature. Also, she said that the “For Our Emirates We Plant” has managed to plant 2,101,518 trees since its inception in 2007. The planted trees mitigate annually approximately 12,392 MT of carbon emissions from the atmosphere.

Mrs.Habiba Al Marashi mentioned that EEG will carry out 3 activities with a total plantation of 2500 native trees till the end of this year, therefore improving the microclimate and increasing the sustainable green spaces in the UAE and mitigating carbon emissions from the atmosphere, effectively marking its commitment to the UN Decade of Ecosystem Restoration (2021 – 2030).
