Employees of Grandiose, the fast-growing UAE supermarket chain, recently led a major beach clean-up effort at Imkan Al Jurf beach.

On December 23rd, employees visited the beach, which is located between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. They spent hours walking the shoreline collecting and clearing plastic waste, paper and rubbish. Over 50 kilograms of environmentally hazardous plastic and waste were collected in a bid to preserve the natural environment, a key pillar of the company’s ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) program.

“In line with our efforts to be eco-friendly citizens and as the festive season is about giving back, we were delighted to take part in this important initiative to help keep our marine environment clean,” said Fabrice Le Boulenger, General Manager of Grandiose. “Sustainability is at the core of Grandiose Supermarket’s operations, whether it be removing single-use plastic bags from checkout counters or using non-plastic cutlery in our ‘grab and go’ section.”

The beach clean-up builds on a seminar program held recently at Youth Hub, where Grandiose employees shared ideas with a young audience on how to encourage eco-friendly practices throughout the community.
