His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) inaugurated the Al Wathba Fossil Dunes Protected Area, which is the first of its kind in the country, and one of the first in West Asia. The Protected Area located 45 kilometres to the East of Abu Dhabi city and comprising more than1,700 fossil dunes, is spread over 7 square kilometres.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by H.E. Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Nahyan bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, H.E. Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, H.E. Dr Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the Department of Community Development and H.E. Staff Major General Pilot Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei Abu Dhabi Police Commander-in-Chief.
