Dr. Ken Yeang, an internationally recognised pioneer in ecology and a founding figure in sustainable architecture has joined forces with The Arbor School to host a free-to-attend webinar on Wednesday 24th June at 3pm, to raise awareness and offer a deeper understanding of green design and the importance of emulating the natural environment within our built environment.

The webinar, which will take place virtually between Ken Yeang and Brett Girven, Principal of The Arbor School will discuss how ecology and the ecosystem can positively influence the design and planning of the built environment, the concept of bio-integration and how humanity can thrive by emulating and replicating the qualities of the ecosystems around us.

The Arbor School embraces the ethos and vision of Ken Yeang’s work, made clear by the school’s house system which was named after four prominent environmentalists including Ken Yeang; Jane Goodall – ethologist and primatologist; Isatou Ceesay – environmental activist and ‘Queen of Recycling in The Gambia’ and Sir David Attenborough – naturalist and television personality.

Blending academic rigour with a deep understanding of the world and our place within it, The Arbor School utilises six climate-controlled biodomes and reflection and learning gardens as key educational spaces to engage children in a deeper understanding of their ecology and environment. The aim is to educate and teach children to question their impact on the planet and to assume their responsibility as curators of the future in a profoundly interconnected world.

Describing himself as an “ecologist first, architect second”, Dr.Yeang is the innovator behind many of the design principles architects use when creating ecologically sustainable buildings today. His ‘vertical green urbanism’ perspective has received international acclaim and challenged the boundaries of modern structures and nature working together.

‘An Audience with Ken Yeang’, will be streamed live across the school’s social media platforms at 3pm on Wednesday 24th June.
