Since its creation in 1976, L’OCCITANE en Provence has been committed to respect nature, the environment and the people in it. Although L’OCCITANE has always been conscious of the impact of packaging and committed to keeping nature free from pollution, the company needs to further accelerate its waste-reducing efforts to meet its customers’ and stakeholders’ expectations.

L’OCCITANE’s vision is to achieve a circular economy that gives polluting materials a second life. The brand L’OCCITANE en Provence has pledged that, by 2025, 100% of its bottles will use 100% recycled plastic, and 100% of its owned stores will offer a recycling service. To achieve this goal, it has set out a number of specific actions in three key areas:

  1. REDUCE – reducing waste and improving product lifespans.
  2. RECYCLE – working towards a circular economy.
  3. REACT – supporting initiatives that encourage responsible and sustainable use of plastic.

Expanded partnership with Loop Industries

L’OCCITANE en Provence is determined to transition from currently 30% to 100% sustainable PET plastic in all its bottles.

Since February 2019, L’OCCITANE has partnered with Loop Industries, the industry leader and a technological innovator in sustainable plastic. The initial supply agreement for Loop™-branded  100% sustainable PET plastic resin provided that L’OCCITANE was to be supplied from Loop Industries’ first European PET manufacturing facility in 2022.

The agreement has since been expanded, and Loop will begin supplying its sustainable PET resin to L’OCCITANE from Loop Industries’ joint venture manufacturing facility with Indorama Ventures Limited in Spartanburg, South Carolina. As part of this agreement, Loop and Indorama Ventures expect the delivery of materials to L’OCCITANE en Provence to begin in 2021.

Thanks to this extended partnership, L’OCCITANE expects to accelerate the transition to 100% sustainable PET plastic in all its bottles and thus meet its 2025 goal ahead of schedule.

Sensible sustainable thinking lies at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to limiting the impact of our business on the environment at every possible step, from product formulation and sustainable packaging through to final product distribution. We are delighted to announce that, thanks to Loop Industries, we expect to move to 100% sustainable PET plastic in all our bottles earlier than originally planned.’
