Amazonico Marks World Rainforest Day By Contributing Towards Amazon Regeneration
In collaboration with the charity One Tree Planted, Amazónico will plant a tree in the Amazon rainforest on behalf of every customer that dines throughout the week of 22 June to 29 June. The restaurant is also pledging to donate $10 to One Tree Planted for every guest that visits on World Rainforest Day.
Amidst the current pandemic, global deforestation has accelerated rapidly. Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research (INPE) stated that since the outbreak of COVID-19 deforestation has increased by nearly 64% in April this year, compared to the same month last year. Reasons for this include illegal loggers and miners not abiding by the laws and taking advantage of lockdown; continuing to operate in the area with little to no regulations.
“We’re thrilled to have Amazónico’s support with reforestation in this critical region. The Amazon has suffered immense deforestation while being a vital ecosystem for every biodiversity and the climate. Every tree planted will help move us towards regeneration”, says Diana Chaplin, Canopy Director at One Tree Planted.
Located in Gate Village, Pavillon DIFC, Amazónicois a true celebration of Latin American cultural diversity and gastronomic heritage. Dishes are not only inspired by the countries of the Amazon but the unique Asian and Mediterranean communities which inhabit them. From Peruvian sushi and the freshest raw seafood to carefully sourced grilled meats and fish. Amazónico’s lounge and restaurant are open daily from 12pm – 11pm with the government’s current health and safety measures in place.
