Abu Dhabi Waste Management Center (Tadweer) announced that its Civic Amenity for Recyclable Materials in Khalidiya handled 8.412 tons of waste from the beginning of this year until end of September, 2019. This included 10 different types of recyclable materials including paper, carton, plastic, clothes, expired medicines, used batteries, iron, aluminum cans, glass and electronics .

Of the total volume of recyclable materials collected by the amenity from January to September, plastic amounted to 3.35 tons, constituting the highest proportion, followed by paper at 2.24 tons, carton at 1.88 tons and 330 kilograms of electronics. The facility also received 312 kilograms of aluminum cans, 295 kilograms of glass, 262 kilograms of iron, 19 kilograms of clothes, 6.5 kilograms of expired medicines, and 2 kilograms of used batteries.

Al Kaabi added: “Our drive to set up these innovative facilities goes a long way in promoting the culture of waste segregation and creating a healthy and sustainable environment in the emirate, while preserving the cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of Abu Dhabi through preventing random waste dumping . In allocating dedicated bins for the collection of different types of materials, the civic amenities act as mini waste segregation plants, enabling the public to segregate waste at source and support our continued efforts to minimize waste sent to landfills . “

Al Kaabi also revealed Tadweer is currently installing new civic amenities in vital areas of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. With ability to handle 12 different types of waste, the Center has set up 8 new amenities this month including 7 in Al Ain.
